What is the impact of playing in an all-Canadian North Division during this Covid-19 impacted 2020-21 season? I suppose it depends on who the player is, but Montreal Canadiens’ forward Brendan Gallagher is simply having fun with it. In fact, his contention is that the NHL players he knows are really enjoying it.
For those reasons, Gallagher reports that he’s feeling no pressure at all – or so he says. What he is doing is having fun.
Which Is More Fun? Being in First or Fighting for First?
Obviously, any NHL player would want to be in front of the standings and whatever division his team is in, but you wouldn’t know that from Gallagher’s comments during a recent interview.
In the interview below, you can hear the Canadiens’ Gallagher speaking with the media and sharing why he’s feeling no pressure by tight North Division standings.
Gallagher Is Having Fun: Or So He Says
What Makes This Season Special for Gallagher?
So, what actually does Canadiens’ forward Brendan Gallagher have to say when he talks about how tight the North Division standings are getting? Believe it or not; and, I have to admit that I’m somewhat skeptical, he announces clearly that “there’s no pressure.” Instead, “it’s going to get really fun.”
So that begs the question: what’s fun about it? And perhaps his answer is what separates professional hockey players from mere fans.
Point One: Gallagher likes the competition.
He especially likes the North division because “you know how competitive it’s going to be.”
Point Two: Gallagher likes the uncertainty of where a team might end up.
He notes that no teams are going to fall out of the race. Instead, he notes that, if you look at the standings, “teams are going to be going on winning streaks and losing streaks throughout the year. They’ll be some bouncing around.” Gallagher apparently likes that unknown aspect.
Point Three: Gallagher likes the challenge.
He notes that teams have to make sure “you’re taking care of your own business.” He also notes that “it’s going to get fun because these points are going to be so hard to come by.” Finally, he suggests again that “it’s gonna be competitive.”
Gallagher Hopes Fans Like this Kind of Hockey
Finally, Gallagher hopes “the fans are going to enjoy it,” because he knows the players “are definitely going to.”
