Canadian Teams Daily Rumours: Canucks, Oilers, Jets & Senators
There are rumours from Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Ottawa starting to build—and each one could turn into something much bigger soon.
In today’s Canadian Teams Daily Rumours, the Oilers’ Bill Scott pops up in the Canucks GM hunt. Could Vancouver snag an Oilers brain to reboot the front office? In Winnipeg, the Jets’ first line carried the load, but the team’s secondary scoring was problematic. Now they’ve got to build a second line that can actually produce. Expect the Jets to take a swing at a scoring winger or two this summer to stop burning out the top trio. Finally, Brady Tkachuk’s home turf could shake up the offseason chatter. Will he choose family and a move to the New York area, or stick around and try to win it in Ottawa?
Let’s take a look at these rumours.
Oilers & Canucks Rumour: Bill Scott Pops Up in Canucks GM Hunt
The Canucks are still hunting for Patrik Allvin’s replacement, and now Edmonton’s assistant GM Bill Scott is getting a look. He’s already been linked to other positions (Nashville’s been sniffing). John Shannon says Scott will Zoom in for an interview with Vancouver.
Scott’s been with the Oilers organization for a long time in hockey exec terms. He’s been an AHL GM, salary-cap guy, director of ops, and AGM for four years. A rookie GM job would be his first real shot at the top brass in the NHL. It makes sense why Vancouver’s checking him out. He has experience across roles, familiarity with modern cap math, and has been part of a contender’s front office.
Jets Rumour: Winnipeg’s First Line Carried the Load — Now They’ve Got to Find a Second Line
Looking at the team’s season, the Jets’ stars did their thing — Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, and Gabe Vilardi were solid. But the rest of the lineup didn’t deliver after Nikolaj Ehlers left. Secondary scoring was wiped out, goaltending dipped, special teams cratered, and suddenly, all the weight was on the top guys. The head coach and GM look to be staying, so the onus is on them to fix this.

One task this summer is to build a real second line so the top line doesn’t get worn down. That means adding a playmaker or two who can drive the offence. Maybe the Jets will hunt for a middle-six winger in free agency, eyeing a trade for a scoring forward. Or, they can promote from within if there’s someone ready in the pipeline.
Do that, and a lot of the other problems go away. There would be less pressure on the goalie and cleaner special-teams chances. It looks easy enough to solve, and fans should watch for some action.
Senators Rumour: Tkachuk’s Home Turf Could Shake Up Offseason Chatter
Brady Tkachuk lives in New Jersey now, and that always spices up the rumour mill. Rangers fans are already dreaming. He says he’s all in on winning in Ottawa, but living near New York sure makes a move feel possible. The family has a baby on the way, which could nudge him toward staying close to home. Maybe he’d prefer finishing his career somewhere that actually fits his life off the ice.
Ottawa gets the first real chance this summer when they can talk contract, and whatever happens will come down to Brady’s answer. Does he want to stay and try to win there, or pull the trigger on a move closer to family and familiar turf? Either way, this is going to be one of the juiciest stories to watch all offseason.
The Daily Wrap
None of these rumours is popping off like wildfire — yet. What you’ve got is three different off-season vibes simmering: a front-office candidate from a rival getting a sniff at a new gig, a club that desperately needs to fix its depth scoring, and a star whose hometown roots keep the trade chatter alive.
Bill Scott’s name in Vancouver’s mix is the “smart-timer” move — a guy from a winning shop getting his first big shot. The Jets’ summer is going to be all about finding a legit No. 2 line so Connor, Scheifele and Vilardi don’t burn out. And with Brady Tkachuk living in New Jersey and a baby on the way, his future in Ottawa sits in that weird spot between “I’m patient” and “I might want home turf.”
That’s how things start — small, sensible storylines that can bend into something much bigger once camps open, free agency kicks off, and the noise gets louder. Keep an eye on all three.
