Cale Makar Scores Huge Tying goal for Team Canada

Cale Makar scored a crucial goal for Team Canada in the gold medal game against the USA. The game is now tied 1-1. Who becomes the hero?

Cale Makar scored a huge tying goal for Team Canada late in the second period of the gold medal game against the USA at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics.

With 1:33 left in the second, Makar notched the game at 1-1 heading into the third period. Canada heavily outplayed the Americans in the second, posting a tournament high in shots. It seemed like Connor Hellebuyck wasn’t going to be beaten. But after Bo Horvat won a big faceoff, Devon Toews got the puck over to Makar, who put a laser off the post and in.

Toews found him at the top of the right faceoff circle/right slot. Makar skated in and ripped a wicked wrist shot that beat Hellebuyck underneath his arm or just inside the far post — a perfectly placed shot. It was Makar’s second goal of the tournament.

Cale Makar, Team Canada, scores a goal to make it 1-1 going into the third period.

This came after the USA killed off Canada’s 5-on-3 power play earlier in the period and after some physical scrums. The goal answered Matt Boldy‘s solo beauty in the first (splitting Makar and Toews for the 1-0 USA lead). In one manner of speaking, Makar got some revenge after being on the ice for Boldy’s goal.

With the game tied, it’s anyone’s game now with one period left for gold. If the game goes into overtime, the two teams will play 20 minutes in each extra frame at 3-on-3.
