Bruins Sign David Krejci to 1-Year, $1 Million (Plus Bonuses) Deal

David Krejci has signed a one-year deal to return to the Boston Bruins for the 2022-23 NHL season.

It has been a busy Monday for the Boston Bruins organization. Earlier in the day it was announced that the team has officially signed Patrice Bergeron to return for another season. Not much more than an hour later, the Bruins also revealed the team has signed David Krejci to return. The two deals together worked out to a $3.5 million combined cap hit out of gate, with another $4.5 million in combined potential bonuses.

Krejci’s deal is for $1 million for the upcoming season with another $2 million available in performance-based bonus money.

At 36, Krejci has played all 15 of his NHL seasons with the Bruins. He left the team after the 2020-21 season to return home to the Czech Republic and be closer to his family. He scored 20 goals and added 26 assists over 51 games for HC Olomouc. One season is all that it took before the player felt the itch to return to the NHL.

His eight goals and 36 assists for the Bruins in 2020-21 were a far cry from the 73 points (20 goals, 53 assists) he put up for Boston in 2018-19 and it will be intriguing to see if he still has the ability to keep up in 2022-23, but the $1 million cap hit allows the Bruins to use him anywhere they see fit. He was an effective point producer who potted mostly assists, but was also strong on the power play and in the faceoff circle. He’ll likely be back to center Boston’s second line, with David Pastrnak, Jake DeBrusk and/or Taylor Hall playing on his wings.

For the Bruins, the big business they have left to do is announce a David Pastrnak extension, something they’d like to do this summer if at all possible.
