Bruins’ Jake DeBrusk Has Officially Rescinded Trade Request

Jake DeBrusk has officially rescinded his trade request and it looks like he’ll be sticking around with the Boston Bruins.

While its possible he gets moved in the roster shuffling that takes place in Boston, don’t expect to see forward Jake DeBrusk get traded. As per reports, he has officially rescinded his trade request.

As per TSN’s Ryan Rishaug:

“Jake DeBrusk’s agent Rick Valette spoke with Bruins GM Don Sweeney last week and informed him that DeBrusks trade request was rescinded, and that he’d be happy to remain a Bruin moving forward. DeBrusk has 2 years left at 4m, and could still be moved but unlikely at this point.”

It’s not clear if the decision to stick around has to do with the coaching change in Boston, but this is good news for the Bruins as DeBrusk was one of their more productive forwards in the latter part of the 2021-22 NHL season. His initial request to be traded came back in the summer of 2021, and the DeBrusk made it public after he was a healthy scratch in late November. The team then signed DeBrusk to a tw0-year extension in the hopes they would have better luck moving him and getting a decent return for a player under team control. That never happened, much to the surprise of DeBrusk and his agent.

While a trade deadline deal failed to materialize, it works out that this might have been the best thing for both the Bruins and DeBrusk. He wants to stay put now and the Bruins ultimately signed the winger to a two-year extension that fits well under the current salary cap situation. With news that Patrice Bergeron is coming back, when Brad Marchand is healthy and ready to return, the Bruins will have the makings of a solid top-six that should keep them competitive next season.

It is not clear where new coach Jim Montgomery will use DeBrusk but one has to imagine the new coach and the player have likely had a conversation. DeBrusk, put up 25 goals in 77 games last year. He has 92 goals and 176 points in 321 career games, all with the Bruins organization.
