Bruins Considering Return of Former Defenseman in Trade with Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs are shopping Brandon Carlo and there’s talk the Bruins might be interested in bringing him back.

According to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic, the Boston Bruins might be open to the idea of bringing back former defenseman Brandon Carlo. While the scribe broke down some of the other trades Bruins GM Don Sweeney might have cooking as the NHL Draft approaches, he also noted that Boston isn’t just potentially selling Pavel Zacha.

Shinzawa writes:

“On the other side of things, there’s the question of whom the Bruins could be targeting to add. One league source, granted anonymity to speak about discussions that aren’t public, said there have at least been internal conversations about the possibility of bringing back from the Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Brandon Carlo, who would fill a need at right defense. The Leafs’ asking price is unknown.”

Nick Kypreos recently reported that the Maple Leafs are exploring options around Carlo and despite health and foot speed issues, his modest cap hit makes him appealing. Teams are a little reluctant to buy into him, knowing that he’s not quite the same player he was in Boston, but if there’s anyone who knows what Carlo is capable of in the right environment, it’s the Bruins.

Another report suggested that after the Darren Raddysh trade and extension, Carlo became available and Toronto has been engaged in talks since last week about him. There might be something brewing in the next few hours.

There was also talk that the Buffalo Sabres might have interest, but they added Olen Zellwegger in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. They might not still be kicking around the Carlo idea.
