Bruins and David Krejci In Talks To Return to Team Next Season

The Boston Bruins are reportedly in negotiations with David Krejci to bring him back to the team for next season.

An interesting development is coming out of Boston where NHL insider and analyst Kevin Weekes is reporting that the Boston Bruins and former forward David Krejci are in talks about him returning to the team next season. Weekes writes, “I’m told Krejci, and the @NHLBruins are in negotiations for his potential return to Beantown.” This comes about two weeks after Weekes reported that Krejci was recently in South Carolina and he wondered if the two sides could find a deal that would bring him back to the NHL.

Krejci left the Bruins to go play back home to the Czech Republic to play hockey so that his family and friends can watch him finish out his professional hockey career. It wasn’t believed he would be coming back, but with all of the injuries to the Bruins this season, a change in coaching and an opportunity for him to make a difference, there might be an opening there to see a very effective forward make his return, to the delight of both the fans and the organization.

It could be that playing a season in front of his parents, his brother and his friends was enough. The draw of the NHL and ending his hockey career in the best league in the world might have given Krejci reason for reconsidering his future plans. Perhaps this is just his way to helping out the only NHL teams he’s ever played for. GM Don Sweeney said recently, “I’ve been in touch with David and [his team]…[he] spent a lot of time with his family deciding what he’d like to do. The conversations have gone well. It’s just a matter of when David decides, ultimately, and if we’re gonna be the place that he chooses.”

If he does return, the question about what that allows the Bruins to do in free agency will be intriguing. There was speculation they might be in on some big names, but a player like Nazem Kadri probably doesn’t fit if Krejci is on the payroll.

One also has to assume that a Krejci return ups the odds that Patrice Bergeron comes back to the Bruins as well. It was rumored Bergeron had decided to come back for one more season, but that still hasn’t been officially confirmed.
