Breaking: Patrick Kane is Returning to the Chicago Blackhawks

After much speculation about Patrick Kane deciding between going home to play for the Buffalo Sabres or making a poetic return to the Blackhawks, we’ve learned that he’s chosen the latter.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news Thursday morning on X (formerly Twitter) that Kane would be signing a two-year, $16 million deal worth $8 million in average annual value to return to Chicago.

“The circle is complete. Patrick Kane is re-joining the Blackhawks on a two-year deal,”

The 37-year-old Kane just played out the one-year, $3 million extension he signed with the Detroit Red Wings last June. He tallied 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) in just 67 games played last season.

It comes just days after Connor Bedard inked a hefty new five-year extension with the Blackhawks and subsequently made his pitch for Kane to come back and join him in the Windy City.

“I hope so! I don’t know what I could say to persuade his decision, but we’d all be so excited to have a player like that. That would be incredible to get to play with him and learn from him. Hopefully he decides to come back. It would make us a way better team,”

Kane and Bedard won’t get to team up until at least early November as the young star center recovers from recent offseason shoulder surgery. When they do, however, it should be a special connection to watch develop.

It’s been an active offseason for GM Kyle Davidson, who had already added Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway in a major move in late June and now wins the Kane sweepstakes, further demonstrating the Blackhawks’ desire to turn the corner in this rebuild.
