Bobby Ryan Signs One-Year Deal with Red Wings

The Red Wings have officially announced the deal with Bobby Ryan. It’s a one-year contract worth a reported $1 million.

Bobby Ryan was going to be a steal for someone and it appears the Detroit Red Wings are the team that’s going to take advantage of the risk/reward signing. The Red Wings have officially announced the deal and that they’ve come to terms on a one-year contract worth a reported $1 million.

The Red Wings are giving him a “show me” deal here and it makes sense for Ryan who will get plenty of playing time in Detroit where the team is rebuilding and in need of some scoring assistance. Ryan proved, in a short sample space this past season that he’s got some game left. This could be a huge win for both sides and he’ll get a good chance to show he’s not close to done with the Red Wings.

Ryan is a Player You Can Cheer For

Ryan’s return to Ottawa after taking a break to deal with alcohol abuse issues was one of the most emotional moments of the season. He capped it off by posting a hat-trick in that game.

Ryan was the 2019-20 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy winner this past season. He was bought out last month by the Senators and has been allowed to shop himself around. He had a ton of interest around the NHL and became one of the first players to come off the board in 2020 NHL free agency.

As per Bruce Garrioch, Bobby Ryan said in a text message after talking to Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman, “I really didn’t have to hear anyone else out.
