Blues Among Teams Interested In Trading for Jakob Chychrun

The St. Louis Blues are said to be one of the teams inquiring about the asking price for defenseman Jakob Chychrun.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the St. Louis Blues are among the handful of teams who might be interested in acquiring Jakob Chychrun in trade. Chychrun has been rumored to be on the trade block for some time and he recently confirmed during a press conference that he did notify the team he would like to be moved to a contender. While the Blues might not be in the top five as far as Stanley Cup contenders go, they are almost always competitive.

During the latest episode of his 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman offered up the latest buzz he’d heard surrounding the Blues’ interest in Chychrun. He was asked by co-host Jeff Marek if the speculation was true and he responded, “The short answer is, I do think the Blues are around there, they have been and I do think they would still be, I don’t think they’re out.”

Jakob Chychrun trade rumors Arizona Coyotes

St. Louis would be an intriguing destination for Chychrun as the team is in good shape when it comes to their blue line, but there have been rumors in the past that names like Torey Krug and Justin Faulk could be moved. The Blues don’t have the cap space to simply add Chychrun. They would need to make a move to free up space or send money back in the deal. However, the Coyotes aren’t necessarily rumored to be looking to take on a contract as their main focus is acquiring two top draft picks and a high-end prospect in any trade.

Do The Blues Have a Solid Shot Here?

While the Blues being in the mix is interesting, Friedman noted that the Ottawa Senators are still the team to watch here. They’ve been linked to Chychrun more than any other team and it sounds as though they are simply waiting for the price to drop.

Friedman isn’t convinced a deal has ever really been close but the conversations have been there off and on. He notes that one of the players Arizona liked is Shane Pinto. The Senators aren’t prepared to go there based on the high value they’ve placed on Pinto’s future.

If Pinto is on Arizona’s radar, one has to wonder who they have in their sights from the Blues?
