Blues Could Get Tarasenko Back on Upcoming Road Trip

The St. Louis Blues could get forward Vladimir Tarasenko back on the upcoming road trip, which would be a huge boost for the Blues.

As per a report by Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic, St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko is extremely close to a return to the team and was a full participant in practice today. Head coach Craig Berube told reporters there is a “good chance” the winger returns at some point during the trip.

Rutherford did add:

I’m not saying Tarasenko will play Saturday in San Jose, but based on how he looks in practice today, I’d be pretty surprised if he’s not on the lineup during the six-game road trip.

A Welcome Addition Back

Tarasenko hasn’t played an NHL game since the postseason bubble nor played a regular season game since October 24, 2019. He only slotted in for 10 games last season and it was the first time in his career that he was out for such a long period of time. If he’s able to return to the Blues and there’s not a lot of rust, he’ll be a huge addition to the team as they work towards a playoff run.

It doesn’t sound like there should be many issues with the player’s conditioning. Berube said on how Tarasenko looks and feels:

“He’s itching and ready to go. It’s been a while for him, and a long road. He’s done a real good job of conditioning and doing what he had to do to be in shape and rehab everything. So the credit goes to him and the training staff on our hockey team.”

Originally, Tarasenko’s LTIR status wasn’t an issue for the Blues salary cap unless the winger returned this season. But, with news that Alex Steen and Carl Gunnarsson are out for the year, the Blues have long-term injured reserve space to get Tarasenko back into the lineup without issue. There might be a couple of minor tweaks required but it should be manageable.
