Needles to say, Alex Ovechkin’s wife is not happy about the fact the NHL has fined the Washington Capitals $100,000 after players got together in a hotel room without proper face coverings. She certainly doesn’t seem happy that her husband is wrapped up in some negative press and felt obliged to apologize for his role in the incident.
As it being reported by Samantha Pell of the Washington Post, Ovechkin’s wife, Nastya, posted on Instagram Thursday morning a message to the NHL. She takes aim at the fact the league has singled out Russian players with this fine and goes on to say she doesn’t understand why, considering her husband and fellow Capitals player Dmitry Orlov have Covid-19 antibodies.
“Of course, only Russian players of the Washington Capitals were in the same hotel room. Of course, all of the other NHL players, when playing away, separating themselves from their teammates. Of course they can’t catch the virus when you and your teammates sit together on the bench, hug each other when they score a goal, or are all together in the lounge or locker room.”
She goes on to suggest it’s crazy that the NHL thinks players can’t catch the virus when they are out at restaurants in supermarkets or malls and that they think the virus only affects people in a hotel room. She says, “The one who came up with this rule, obviously is very logical!”
She Suggests Ovechkin and Orlov Are Immune
She also adds that Ovehckin and Orlov have antibodies that would fight against the disease and of course the NHL wouldn’t take the time to consider that. She contends that not enough people know about how antibodies work , or their values and properties.
No comment has come from Ovechkin or the team on her post but we’ll see if this matter gets uglier before it simply goes away. For now, the news is not good as head coach Peter Laviolette has said that Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Orlov and Samsonov will miss four games and then it’s under review.
Immediate reaction to the post is mixed. Some have argued that it’s a bit shocking to see that there are some who aren’t aware of how contagions are spread or, in the case of Ovechkin’s wife, haven’t considered that he and the rest of the players signed an agreement when they said they’d come back to play. Others are going so far to wonder if this will negatively affect Ovechkin’s status with the team.
Ovechkin didn’t seem bothered by the fact the NHL came down on the players who were caught up in all of this. Why she is so upset remains to be seen.
