Kerfoot was “banged up” during the team’s practice on Tuesday, head coach Sheldon Keefe announced. Kerfoot, 26, is entering his second season with the Maple Leafs after being acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in 2019 and Keefe said he was keen on seeing Kerfoot work his magic on third line with Zach Hyman and Ilya Mikheyev. In fact, it was one of the reasons Keefe said he placed Joe Thornton with Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews to start the season.

Outside of that, Keefe says the energy and general vibe has been high through camp. “Very chatty” on the ice and the players have been quick to get back into their rhythms. As for Kerfoot, he is unlikely to skate tomorrow.

Kerfoot had nine goals and 28 points in 65 games last season.
