7 Trades to Expect In The NHL As 2020 Begins

Here are seven NHL players we believe will be prime targets as 2020 gets underway and team are calling each other to make trades.

This final page is dedicated to exclusively New York Rangers. It wasn’t intended to be this way, it just sort of worked out that the trades we see as among the biggest all come from the same organization.

Lias Andersson

Lias Andersson has asked for a trade from the New York Rangers and refuses to report to the AHL roster. This kind of story isn’t entirely new in the NHL. Also not new is the fact a prospect feels he’s entitled to more than he probably deserves.

Andersson hasn’t really lit it up in the NHL so he probably doesn’t have a right to dictate where and when he’ll play. That hasn’t stopped him from trying. The problem now is, he’s earned a reputation as the type of player that will bail on his team, he isn’t guaranteed to produce for you and the combination of those two things don’t exactly create a lineup for your services.

The Rangers are actively trying to move him and there may be a team that thinks a new home in an new environment will make a world of difference.

Ryan Strome

Sometimes hot, sometimes cold, Ryan Strome is hot again and still having what could be a career season for the Rangers right now. As such, it might be best for the Rangers to sell high, even if they feel Strome has built some chemistry with Artemi Panarin.

If the Rangers can move up the standings, potentially they hang onto Strome. At this point, they are 23rd in the NHL standings. But, should the Rangers slide, watch for Strome to hit the trade block, especially if a team believes they can make the most out of a hot season. Like many others, Strome is on an expiring contract and his salary is affordable for most teams as the calendar reaches February.

Chris Kreider

Thank to the Taylor Hall trade that sent the left-winger to Arizona, interest in Chris Kreider is at an all-time high. Kreider has some control over where he lands seeing as he has an 11-team no-trade list, but there will be enough suitors looking to rent Kreider that the Rangers will get some serious offers. No doubt, one or two of them will include a first-round pick.

“There’s a lot of interest — believed to include contenders who might be happy to wait for cap reasons (Boston, St. Louis) and others who aren’t worried about that (Colorado). ” Friedman noted. A recent report suggested the Pittsburgh Penguins might be at the top of the interested-parties list.

The kicker here is that the Rangers aren’t necessarily keen on trading Kreider. There is still a ton of debate about whether or not they’ll make him available or try to re-sign him and at what cost to the team moving forward.
