Wild McDavid Streak Makes Him the Clear Hart Trophy Favorite

Learn about Connor McDavid’s record-setting statistic and how it solidifies his case for the McDavid Hart Trophy this season.

In a season full of Hart Trophy-worthy performances, one statistic stands out, potentially above the rest as the ultimate measure of value: Connor McDavid recorded at least one point in all 41 of the Edmonton Oilers’ wins during the 2025-26 regular season.

According to ESPN Insights, McDavid is just the second player in the last 100 NHL seasons to achieve this feat for a playoff team. The only other? Wayne Gretzky in 1980-81. In the 14 games McDavid was held pointless, the Oilers went 0-12-2 and were badly outscored. When he produced, Edmonton won — every single time.

Hart Trophy Measure Highest Value To Your Team…

What makes the Hart Trophy different than other awards is that it’s team-specific. This isn’t about McDavid being the best player in the NHL — which many could argue he was this season — but that he was the most valuable to his own team. What other stat would better prove this beyond the aforementioned one?

The Oilers have good players. Still, this McDavid stat shows total win dependency. McDavid finished the season with 138 points (48 goals, 90 assists) to win his sixth Art Ross Trophy. He carried a roster that had some holes most of the season— especially after injuries to Zach Hyman and Leon Draisaitl — into the playoffs virtually by himself. The Oilers were a different team without his contributions, as the record clearly shows.

Compare that to the other contenders: Nikita Kucherov delivered an elite 1.71 points-per-game season and massive separation from his teammates, while Nathan MacKinnon posted historic even-strength numbers on the league’s best team. Both cases are outstanding. Yet neither matches McDavid’s direct correlation to victories.

When your team literally cannot win without your offensive contributions, that defines value. McDavid didn’t just lead the league in scoring; he was the indispensable ingredient for every single Oilers victory.
