New York Rangers
Who Says No to Trade: Vancouver Canucks or New York Rangers?
The Rangers have been rumoured to be interested in Miller. As for Zibanejad, he would be given the chance to play alongside Pettersson.
If the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks are both on the verge of making trades, is there is a scenario where the two teams might trade with each other? Considering the history of the players in question and how a potential deal might help both clubs, stranger things have happend.
The Vancouver Canucks have had a drama-filled few weeks. There has been tension between their two biggest stars. Reports suggest that Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller don’t mesh well, and that has caused an issue in the dressing room. Not surprisingly, speculation about the Canucks making a trade has surfaced.
The New York Rangers may be the only NHL team with a more drama-filled few weeks. The team has fallen into last place in the Metro and has appeared to be quitting on themselves. They have already made a few trades to try and shake up their roster, including trading Jacob Trouba. However, nothing has seemed to work. There is speculation that Mika Zibanejad or Chris Kreider could be the next Rangers out the door.
Both teams may look to make a significant shake-up ahead of the 2025 NHL trade deadline. The question is, could the trade be between these two teams? Well, let’s examine that and see who says no to this trade.
Zibanejad (Rangers) for Miller (Canucks) Trade Package?
What if the answer to the locker room issues is a major shake-up centered on the Canucks trading Miller to the Rangers for Zibanejad? The idea was proposed in the latest episode of Real Kyper and Bourne. Nick Kypreos had the same thought that I did. Could it be that simple? Well, it could be.
It has been rumored that the Rangers are interested in Miller. As for Zibanejad, he would be given the opportunity to clear his mind and play alongside his fellow countryman Pettersson.
For the Canucks, they would likely want another piece in the deal. Zibanejad just hasn’t been the same player this season. That could change if he were willing to waive his no-move clause and accept a trade to Vancouver. Although it is a Canadian market, there still is less pressure than in one of the biggest hockey markets in the world, New York.
Potential Trade Proposal
It truly is hard to say how both teams value their assets. However, if I were to speculate what the deal could look like, it would be the following:
Vancouver Canucks: Mika Zibanejad & Ryan Lindgren
New York Rangers: J.T. Miller & Vincent Desharnais
Both Miller and Zibanejad have almost the same contract. Miller has an $8 million cap hit for five seasons, and Zibanejad has an $8.5 million cap hit over the next five seasons. Plus, both teams would be trading defencemen to shake up their blue lines.
Only time will tell what happens, but these two teams could solve some issues by working out a trade with one another.
