Edmonton Oilers

Where Do the Oilers Fit Into All These Trades?

Tuesday was a busy day in the NHL for trades. For all we know, the action isn’t over. What should the Oilers do about it?

Tuesday was a busy day in the NHL for trades. For all we know, the action isn’t over.

With only six days left to the close of the NHL Trade Deadline, the Edmonton Oilers watched on as players like Brenden Dillion and Dylan DeMelo were both moved and speculation surrounds Alec Martinez going to Vegas. This comes just hours after Blake Coleman was moved to Tampaa nd Tyler Toffoli was moved to Vancouver. Both were players the Oilers could have used.

As teams replace players who have been injured or others organizations in the Western Conference try to improve, what will the Oilers do?

Recent buzz was that the Toronto Maple Leafs have been quietly linked in trade discussions to the Oilers, talks centering around defenseman Adam Larsson. Klefbom’s injury makes any potential trade unlikely.

There was also news from Elliotte Friedman in his 31 thoughts article today that Edmonton made a real push for Blake Coleman of the Devils before he was sent to Tampa Bay. Friedman noted that a couple of teams told him that Coleman was the guy the Oilers would give up a first-rounder for.

As names come off the board, what are the Oilers going to do?

Oilers Possible Trade Options

Some have suggested Andreas Athansiou out of Detroit. If the Devils are really considering moving Kyle Palmieri, maybe Edmonton looks into that. Salary will obviously be an issue there. What about Jean-Gabriel Pageau? The Oilers have always been linked to him but the asking price has to be considerably higher than Edmonton wants to pay at this point.

Should the Oilers see if Ilya Kovalchuk can be had for a third-rounder? What about Mike Hoffman out of Florida on a rental? Clearly, the Panthers are selling. If not Hoffman, maybe Vincent Trochek?

Lots of names are moving, but there could be options remaining. What would you do?
