TSN Releases Top 15 Trade List for 2020-21 NHL Deadline

TSN released their top 15 NHL Trade Bait Board on Monday.

Mattias Ekholm David Savard NHL Trade rumors

We posted earlier that The Athletic released their top 28 names to watch during the season when it comes to potential NHL trades. They weren’t the only ones to come out with such a list on Monday. TSN’s Frank Seravalli revealed his list of 15 names and the highly-anticipated rankings included a few differences.

While The Athletic noted they spoke with GMs and NHL staff to compile their list, Seravalli makes no such claims. It is assumed the NHL insider talked to NHL clubs and got a feel for the marketplace when compiling list, but there are some notable differences, especially considering his list doesn’t include Jack Eichel.

The Athletic had Eichel in the second spot, while he doesn’t appear at all on Seravalli’s list. The TSN analyst does have Mattias Ekholm in first (as does The Athletic), but the Eichel omission is a major difference, which either suggests he’s not confident in all the chatter he’s hearing surrounding the center, or he’s not hearing the same information.

The Top Three Players on TSN’s Board

Outside of Ekholm who ranks in the top spot, David Savard of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Tony DeAngelo of the New York Rangers take spots No.2 and No. 3. Savard is a blueliner whose name has often been mentioned in trade talks, while DeAngelo has had a trying season and the New York Rangers have said he will never play for their organization again.

While Savard will certainly attract some interest as a pending UFA, it will be interesting to see if any team bits on DeAngelo who comes with some incredible baggage.

Other Notables

Seravalli also has a number of Buffalo Sabres on the list, but includes Eric Staal where The Athletic did not. He also added Marc Staal and Vince Dunn in his top 15.

Servalli had Mikael Granlund high on his list, he included Bobby Ryan and Luke Glendening (as he said he would in his Insider Trading segment last week) and the Vancouver Canucks are well represented. Those are similarities to what The Athletic has said they’ve heard.
