Carolina Hurricanes

The Golden Knights Are on Life Support in Game 6?

Vegas faces Game 6 pressure: protect Hart, stay out of the box, and replace Karlsson or risk letting Carolina close it out.

What three things have to happen for the Vegas Golden Knights to win Game 6 against the Carolina Hurricanes?

First, the Golden Knights Have to Protect Their Goalie

If the Vegas Golden Knights are going to stay alive in the Stanley Cup Final, they can’t mess around with this game. First, Carter Hart needs to actually stop pucks. His numbers look rough on paper, but a lot of the goals he let in have been soft or lucky bounces. And coach John Tortorella clearly still trusts him.

That means Vegas’ forwards have to do the dirty work in front of the net. They must block shots, clear rebounds, and make life easier for the goalie. Don’t give Hart a bunch of second‑chance opportunities to stop or let pucks trickle through traffic. His teammates must make their goalie look like a wall rather than leave him exposed to garbage goals. When Hart’s confidence is up, and he’s seeing pucks cleanly, Vegas gets a chance to hang in the game.

Second, the Golden Knights Must Stop Taking Silly Penalties.

Game 5 got away from them because of avoidable mistakes. They had a roughing, a cross‑check, and that accidental high stick that turned into a double minor. Carolina’s power play is on fire right now, so every time Vegas hands them a man advantage, it’s basically a gift.

Discipline is non‑negotiable. Vegas must play physically but in a controlled manner; don’t grab or chase with your stick, and be smarter on the puck. Kill off the minors when they come and, better yet, don’t give the Hurricanes any man advantages. If Vegas can stay out of the box and make Carolina earn everything at even strength, the series swings back to them.

Third, the Golden Knights Must Plug Karlsson’s Role Cleanly.

William Karlsson being out shakes up matchups and line chemistry, so whoever slides into that role needs to be simple, steady, and responsible right away. This isn’t the time for experimental juggling. Whoever replaces him must win puck battles, make safe reads, and help shut down Carolina’s key forwards.

Vegas must keep line changes clean, avoid mismatches, and not let the Hurricanes exploit any holes from a hurried lineup tweak. A steady presence in that spot keeps them from getting hemmed in and lets them play the game they want.

The Bottom Line for Vegas If They Are to Win

The bottom line for Vegas is to make saves, stay disciplined, and replace Karlsson with a plug‑and‑play presence who cares about defence. If Vegas nails those three things, they can win. They must play with structure and block shots without handing Carolina power plays. If they can, they give themselves the best shot to force Game 7.
