The Dallas Stars Could Land Zach Werenski and Dylan Larkin?

Two American superstars and best friends who both want out of their current situations in Columbus and Detroit, and while they may not have been planning to link up elsewhere, reports are suggesting the Dallas Stars may be trying—and able—to make that happen.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman spoke about the possibility of Dallas landing both Werenski and Larkin this summer during the latest episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast.

Friedman said:

“I really do think Dallas is interested in Werenski. On its face, I find it hard to believe that there’s a better trade out there for Columbus, if it’s real, than Thomas Harley.

The one thing about Dallas is part of me has wondered if a team could pull off both guys. Like Werenski and Larkin are really tight—is there a team that could do both? I look at teams like Vegas and Dallas and I just wonder, could they do both? It’s harder, I think, for Vegas,”

The 28-year-old Werenski has two years remaining on the six-year, $57.5 million contract extension he signed with the Blue Jackets in 2021, while Larkin, 29, has five years left on the eight-year, $69.6 million extension he signed with the Red Wings in 2023.

Acquiring both Werenski and Larkin would change everything for Dallas, and it would also very likely mean Jason Robertson and potentially Thomas Harley going out the door.

It would undoubtedly be difficult to pull off and a bold move by GM Jim Nill, but the Stars have been legitimate contenders for much of the last eight seasons and still haven’t gotten over the hump to win a Stanley Cup. It’s clear they believe something needs to change—or be added—to finally do it.
