Tampa Bay Lightning Sign J.J. Moser To Eight-Year Extension
The Tampa Bay Lightning have locked in one of their best defensemen signing an eight-year, $54MM ($6.75MM AAV) extension with J.J. Moser.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are locking in one of their key defenseman, reportedly signing JJ Moser to a long-term deal.
As broken by Elliotte Friedman on Saturday afternoon, “Good afternoon…belated Christmas gift in Tampa Bay for JJ Moser, who is having a great season. Hearing he is closing in on an eight-year, $6.75M AAV extension with the Lightning.”
The Lightning confirmed the news not long afterward. They wrote on their official website, “The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed defenseman J.J. Moser to an eight-year contract extension worth an AAV of $6.75 million, Vice President and General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today. The contract extension will begin with the 2026-27 season and run through the end of the 2033-34 campaign. ”
JFresh writes, “JJ Moser’s having an insane season, and on top of the absurd underlying numbers, Tampa has a 0.958 save percentage with him on the ice at 5v5.”

Moser, 25, has played 34 games for Tampa Bay this season, posting three goals and 12 points while averaging 21:43 per night. He leads the Lightning with a plus-24 rating and ranks among the NHL’s top defensemen in plus-minus. Acquired from Arizona in June 2024, the Swiss blueliner has appeared in 293 career NHL games, recording 21 goals and 98 points.
