Senators Poised to Make a Win-Now Move, Writes Scribe
One scribe is arguing that the Ottawa Senators need to make a win-now move to will take the Senators from playoff hopeful to contender.
As per Julian McKenize of The Athletic, expect the Ottawa Senators to make a push this season. As the team starts to win games and put themselves in a more comfortable playoff spot, McKenzie believes it’s time for the team and, specifically GM Steve Staios, to push his chips in.
McKenzie writes:
“Whether or not the Senators make the playoffs, GM Steve Staios will eventually have to make some kind of major move. The kind of move that will take the Senators from playoff hopeful to contender. It could be a trade or a free-agent signing in the summer. If the Senators fall out of a playoff spot, that need for a major move will be emphasized to help their team take the next step.”
As for what the move is, it remains unclear.
Believed to be sellers again when the season started, the Senators have come on strong of late. They lost their most recent game to the Edmonton Oilers, but before that, the team had won six in a row. That run has placed them in fifth place in the Atlantic and they hold the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. What the Sens don’t want to do is lose any momentum.
Senators Need a Pick-Me-Up Move
With news that goaltender Linus Ullmark is not going on the road trip with the Senators and the team will be without him for several games, a move might be better made sooner rather than later. A losing streak for the Senators could be disastrous.

It’s not evident what big moves Staios can actually make at this time. The New York Rangers are a team looking to make changes and there is speculation that Buffalo Sabres might be open to a deal. Would Chris Kreider or Dylan Cozens be of interest?
What if the Senators really went off the board and reached out to the Vancouver Canucks where drama continues to unfold between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson? The Canucks also have ongoing issue with Brock Boeser and his contract talks.
