Kraken Could Be Circling Three Specific Maple Leafs Players

As it stands right now, which players might the Seattle Kraken target from the Toronto Maple Leafs? One NHL insider suggests three options.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are months away from the NHL Expansion Draft and, as such, don’t have to worry quite yet about who the Seattle Kraken might select as they enter the league as its 32nd team. Still, there are early indications that that Kraken may have circled a few names on their board when it comes to the Maple Leafs and will watch more closely to see if these Toronto players can help to shape up their roster.

As you can see from the video above, NHL insider Luke Fox joined the Lead Off show to discuss who the Kraken might have their eyes on and he said the following: “I think the main guys Seattle could be circling on are Justin Holl and Travis Dermott.” Despite it not necessarily being a strength of the Leafs’ organization, Fox adds, “Ironically, I think they’re going to target the Leafs defense.”

There is another name that could be available. Fox notes:

“Alternatively, the Leafs could expose a guy like Alexander Kerfoot if he doesn’t have a great season and they maybe want to shed some of his salary. That’s another option.”

The Real Choice Is Likely Dermott or Holl

In the end, Fox sticks with his original assessment. He says that either one of Dermott or Holl should be worried they won’t be Maple Leafs at this time next year or they should be excited because they’ll get to join a new team and have a ton more opportunity.

Holl has two seasons remaining after this upcoming one at a value of $2 million per season. Dermott is on the final year of an $874K contract that will see him become an RFA at the end of the season. Both are relatively young, but Dermott is only 23 years of age and potentially has more room to grow having played far more games at a much younger age.
