On Friday, big news came down for the AHL as the board of governors has unanimously elected Scott Howson as the league’s next president and CEO.
Howson will replace David Andrews, who will leave the position June 30 of this year, but will stay on as chairman of the board. Currently the director of player development for the Edmonton Oilers and a former GM for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Howson brings a vast array of hockey experience to the job as the AHL’s new President.
Howson will become the league’s tenth president and as he works his way into the role, he’ll be responsible for assisting the league with its expansion into Palm Springs and welcoming its 32nd team.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Howson has taken over a job for Andrews. Andrews served as the Director of AHL Operations for the Edmonton Oilers from 1987-1994. When he left to replace Jack Butterfield, Howson took over as GM of the AHL’s Cape Brenton Oilers.
