Sam Reinhart Scores Crucial Power-Play Goal for Team Canada
Sam Reinhart scored a crucial power-play goal for Team Canada in the Olympic men’s hockey semifinal against Finland on February 20, 2026.
The goal came at 14:20 of the second period on a deflection/tip-in of a point shot from Cale Makar during a Canadian power play (triggered by Anton Lundell‘s high-sticking penalty on Brad Marchand). It cut Finland’s lead to 2-1 after Erik Haula‘s shorthanded breakaway goal had made it 2-0 earlier in the period.
This was Reinhart’s first goal of the entire tournament—he’d been held to just one assist through the prior games. It was a goal he needed and, even moreso, a goal Team Canada needed. The momentum started turning in the second period, but there’s still a hurdle to overcome with the team down by one. It’s a massive momentum swing for Canada in a must-win spot, getting them back within one with time left in the second.

The game remains tight and ongoing—Canada trailing 2-1 late in the second—but this keeps their gold-medal hopes alive despite missing Sidney Crosby and the earlier penalties/drama (including Sam Bennett‘s goaltender interference leading to Finland’s opener).
Team Canada is now 6-14 on the power play during the Olympics.
