Reports Suggest Jordan Binnington Will Be Traded Before the Deadline

Multiple reports indicate that momentum is building toward a Jordan Binnington trade before the deadline.

Jordan Binnington has been in the rumor mill for years now, but it’s finally starting to sound like the 2026 trade deadline could be the time he actually gets moved. The St. Louis Blues will not be going on a miracle late-season run to make the playoffs, and as a result, Doug Armstrong appears open to selling off just about anything from his roster.

While some reports have suggested interest in Binnington around the league has been limited, NHL Network analyst Brian Lawton shared on Monday that a deal sending the big-game goaltender to a contender feels like a foregone conclusion to happen before the March 6 trade deadline.

Lawton wrote:

“The Blues appear ready to move on from Jordan Binnington. 16 team no trade list is in play but feels like a move is a forgone conclusion at this stage with where @StLouisBlues  heading in the near term,”

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reaffirmed that sentiment during an appearance on Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer on Tuesday.

“Well, I’ll tell you this, like I think there’s a chance Binnington goes here. And I don’t know that it’s going to be them (Edmonton)… I’ve just heard it’s picked up around him,”

The 32-year-old Binnington is in year five of the six-year, $36 million extension signed with the Blues back in 2021. He’s had another tough season in St. Louis, currently sporting an 8-18-6 record to go with a 3.60 goals-against average, an .867 save percentage, and one shutout.

The biggest hurdle in a potential trade has been finding a landing spot, as many teams are either set at the position or are tight to the cap, while his 16-team no-trade list adds another layer of complexity

Lawton mentioned that any contender would benefit from his proven ability to step up in the biggest games and moments. ESPN insider Greg Wyshynski threw out the Vegas Golden Knights, who have struggled mightily at the position, while the Montreal Canadiens and even the Edmonton Oilers — albeit more of a long shot — have been connected as potential teams to circle back on Binnington.

Aside from those three, not many others are desperate enough to pay a significant price for Binnington, so it could be a three-team — or perhaps even smaller — race to acquire the Stanley Cup–winning goaltender.
