Rangers Give Lias Andersson Fresh Start, Trade Him to Kings

The New York Rangers traded the forward to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for the Los Angeles Kings’ second-round pick on Wednesday.

The New York Rangers have finally moved on from forward Lias Andersson. They traded the forward to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for the Los Angeles Kings’ second-round pick (No. 60) on Wednesday.

This trade is about the Rangers grabbing another pick and giving Andersson a change of scenery. He was likely never to rejoin the Rangers. For the Kings, they believe they’ll be able to do something with Andersson the Rangers could not.

A former top-10 pick, Andersson gets his second chance and will have every opportunity to prove himself with the Kings. He refused to report to the New York Rangers AHL affiliate team early in 2020 and officially requested a trade from the organization when it he believed he wasn’t being given the right opportunities. There was a ton of talk he might be traded throughout the year but that never materialized.

On day two of the draft, the Rangers were finally able to make a deal happen. The Rangers selected William Cuylle with the 60th pick that they acquired from the Kings.

It’s worth noting that his father works for the Kings organization which is likely why the team believed they could come to terms on bringing him back to the NHL at some point.
