Predators Acquire Jayden Struble From Canadiens for a 2nd-Round Pick
The Predators acquire defenceman Jayden Struble from the Canadiens for a 2027 second-round pick. Here’s what the trade means for both teams.
The Nashville Predators have added a young defenceman, and the Montreal Canadiens have picked up a valuable asset in return. Nashville acquired Jayden Struble from Montreal in exchange for Vegas’ 2027 second-round pick, both teams announced Friday. It is now the 10th trade by Chris MacFarland since he took over as GM of the Predators.
For Montreal, the return of Kaiden Guhle from injury and the play of Adam Engstrom made a decision on Montreal’s blue line a matter of time.
“Jayden Struble is a 25-year-old physical defender who will add mobility and a hard-to-play against quality that will help our backend,” MacFarland said. “We are excited to watch his growth and look forward to him being a player who can grow with us.”
Struble, a 6-foot, 207-pound left-shot defenceman, has played three games for Montreal this season, averaging 12:05 of ice time with four hits and three blocked shots. Last season, he set a career high with 59 games, recording 12 points (two goals, 10 assists), a +4 rating and 115 hits, second on the Canadiens.

He has 35 points and 167 penalty minutes in 174 career NHL games, all with Montreal. Selected 46th overall in 2019, he played four seasons at Northeastern before turning pro.
Eric Engels noted that the move isn’t a shock. Struble will be a restricted free agent when his $1.412-million contract expires next summer, and he now has a chance to play more regularly with a team that needs him. Montreal, meanwhile, gets a 2027 second-rounder that could land near the top of the round.
