Panthers Trading Frank Vatrano to New York Rangers

The Florida Panthers have reportedly traded Frank Vatrano to the New York Rangers for a fourth-round draft pick in 2022.

As per TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Florida Panthers are trading Frank Vatrano to the New York Rangers for a fourth-round pick this year. LeBrun notes the official trade call hasn’t happened yet, but the deal is reportedly done between the two teams.

Vatrano has 10 goals and 19 points in 49 games for the Panthers this season. He’s 28 years old and a pending UFA with a cap hit of $2.53 million. In what could be a salary cap dump prior to the Panthers making a bigger move, Vatrano had just come off a two-goal performance against the San Jose Sharks. He’s now a fourth-line player, but at times this season, Vatrano had been a healthy scratch.

Vatrano has 93 goals and 157 points in 379 career NHL games. He scored a career-high of 24 during the 2018-19 season. The Rangers are probably happy to add some depth and they had plenty of cap space in which to make this trade.

As per Cap Friendly, since the Panthers are using LTIR, cap hits are not pro-rated. That means that sending out Vatrano would result in them having $5.45 million in cap space to use over the next few days.
