Panthers Trade Anthony Duclair to Sharks in Cap-Driven Deal
Florida Panthers trade Anthony Duclair to San Jose Sharks in a cap-driven move with additional player involved.
The Florida Panthers have traded forward Anthony Duclair to the San Jose Sharks in a move that appears to be cap-driven. Duclair, known for his offensive abilities, brings a hot-and-cold scoring touch and elite playmaking skills at even strength. However, his defensive game and playoff performances have raised questions. The full details of the trade are yet to be confirmed, but it is expected that forward Steven Lorentz will be part of the deal heading back to the Panthers.
The Panthers have been actively seeking to improve their blue line, and there have been discussions involving players like Noah Hanifin of the Calgary Flames. Competition from other teams may impact the potential trade scenarios, and the Flames are exploring other options as well.
Duclair has one year remaining on his three-year, $9 million contract, carrying a cap hit of $3 million for the 2023-24 season. Last season, he played 20 regular season games, contributing two goals and seven assists. He also had a solid playoff performance, scoring four goals and 11 points as the Panthers made their way to the Stanley Cup Final. He said of the trade, “I got a great opportunity when I came down here. I was lucky enough to be part of a great team and wanted to make South Florida a home for myself when I got there and did just that. It is just a matter of keeping on going.”
In his career spanning multiple teams, Duclair has accumulated 122 goals and 261 points in 490 games. His offensive prowess has been evident throughout his career, but his consistency and defensive play have been areas of focus for improvement.
