Olen Zellweger Diagnosed With Concussion After Hard Hit From Carson Soucy
Olen Zellweger of the Buffalo Sabres suffered an injury after being hit by Carson Soucy and hitting his head on the ice.
Olen Zellweger is dealing with a concussion after a heavy hit from Carson Soucy left him down on the ice and needing assistance getting to the locker room. In a matchup between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, Zellweger was hit hard and did not return. Beck Malenstyn addressed the collision at the start of the third period, but head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed the injury shortly after.
According to Mike Harrington, Ruff had limited details in the immediate aftermath but confirmed Zellweger is now in concussion protocol, with the belief being his head made contact with the ice on the play. Despite the severity of the injury, Ruff agreed with the assessment that the hit itself was clean.
“We’ll see how bad that is for tomorrow,” Ruff said of Zellweger’s status, indicating further evaluation is still needed before any real timeline emerges.
Mattias Samuelsson was also injured on the night, though details remain unclear for now. Ruff said the team simply doesn’t have enough information yet, with Samuelsson set to be further evaluated Wednesday alongside Zellweger.
Both situations remain fluid, and updates are expected once the team has more clarity following additional testing and evaluation.
