Oilers Sign Defenseman Slater Koekkoek to 1- Yr Deal

the Edmonton Oilers have signed Slater Koekkoek to a one-year deal.

As per TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Edmonton Oilers have signed Slater Koekkoek to a one-year deal. The details of the deal in terms of financials weren’t released right away, but as the news came out, it was revealed he’d signed for $850K and will be a UFA at the end of the deal.

There was talk all of last week that the Oilers would be trying to sign another left-shot defenseman. The buzz was that they would be looking for a veternan with a ton of games under his belt. Instead, they go with a younger blueliner with a bit more promise as a depth guy. Elliotte Friedman said earlier this week on Sportsnet 960 that he thinks the Oilers were looking at Slater Koekkoek and Ben Hutton. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they add one of those two guys,” he said.

Koekkoek had one goal and nine assists for 10 points with the Chicago Blackhawks last season and has 29 points in 149 total NHL career games. He’ll be in and out of the Oilers’ lineup as the team’s seventh defenseman this year.

Koekkoek is a solid depth blue line signing for the team and he just so happens to have one of the best names in the league.
