5 Potential Right-Wing Trade Targets for the Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers could still use another proven right-shot winger in their top six. Matthew Savoie may eventually fill that position, but Edmonton could pursue an established scorer at the 2027 NHL Trade Deadline.
Here are five potential targets, depending on which teams fall out of contention.
Brock Boeser
Brock Boeser would give Edmonton an established finisher capable of playing beside Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl. The Vancouver Canucks winger has surpassed 20 goals six times and possesses the shooting ability Edmonton’s top six currently lacks.
Boeser is not a rental, meaning Vancouver would demand a significant return. Acquiring him from a Pacific Division rival would also make negotiations difficult, but he remains one of the strongest potential fits.
Bryan Rust
If the Pittsburgh Penguins commit to rebuilding, Bryan Rust could become available. The right-shot winger brings speed, defensive awareness and extensive playoff experience.
Rust has spent much of his career playing with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, so adjusting to a complementary role beside one of Edmonton’s elite centres should not be difficult. Pittsburgh may need to retain salary or accept a contract in return to make a trade work.
Kirill Marchenko
Kirill Marchenko would be the most ambitious target. The Columbus Blue Jackets winger offers size, finishing ability and long-term upside.
Unlike a traditional rental, Marchenko could become part of Edmonton’s core beyond one postseason. That contract control would make him expensive, potentially requiring a premium prospect such as Isaac Howard or Savoie and a high draft pick.
Owen Tippett
Owen Tippett could become available if the Philadelphia Flyers decide to make a significant change. The 27-year-old produced 28 goals and 51 points last season and combines a powerful shot with excellent straight-line speed.
Tippett is signed through 2031-32 at $6.2 million annually, giving the Oilers a long-term top-six solution instead of a rental. However, his contract and age would allow Philadelphia to demand a substantial package.
Oliver Bjorkstrand
Oliver Bjorkstrand signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the New York Rangers, but that deal could make him obvious deadline bait if they fall outside the playoff picture.
Bjorkstrand recorded 12 goals and 32 points last season, but he has reached 20 goals five times during his career. His shooting, experience and ability to play throughout the lineup would make him a relatively affordable rental.
Tippett would provide the best combination of age and contractual control, while Boeser is the strongest pure scoring fit. However, Bjorkstrand could become Edmonton’s most realistic option because of his expiring contract and potentially lower acquisition cost.
