Oilers Pitched to Take a Run at Sergei Bobrovsky This Offseason

Will the Edmonton Oilers be in the middle of the Sergei Bobrovsky sweepstakes this summer?

As has been the case throughout the Connor McDavid era, one of the major talking points heading into the offseason in Edmonton will be how the Oilers can upgrade in net.

Connor Ingram and Tristan Jarry formed a brand-new tandem for Edmonton this postseason, and as we saw, it didn’t go so well. The goaltenders don’t deserve all of the blame, but with Ingram poised to become a free agent and the Jarry experiment not having gone according to plan thus far, many believe the Oilers will and should explore a move at the position.

Finding a legitimate starting goalie on the free agent market doesn’t happen all that often; however, this summer could see two-time Stanley Cup champion Sergei Bobrovsky become available, and Shawn Sinclair of NHL Trade Rumors believes Edmonton should pounce on that potential opportunity.

Sinclair wrote:

“If Bowman is able to clear some cap space, with either moving Jarry or perhaps someone like a Darnell Nurse, to help reallocate some resources, there could be some cap space to take a run at veteran goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Goalie Bob is a free agent, he’s apparently far apart during contract negotiations with the Florida Panthers, and the Oilers could be a perfect destination for the Russian netminder. Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin linked Bobrovsky to the Oil in a recent piece highlighting the free-agent class,”

The 37-year-old Bobrovsky is a pending UFA, having just played out the seventh and final year of the seven-year, $70 million contract he signed with the Panthers in free agency in 2019. He went 27–23–1 with a 3.07 goals-against average, a .877 save percentage, and four shutouts across 51 starts in 2025–26.

We know all too well about the Oilers’ window to win with McDavid, and a recent report from insider David Pagnotta suggests that GM Stan Bowman is going to be bold this offseason in order to maximize the time they know they have left with the best player in the world.

Bobrovsky would come with some risk given his age and the amount of hockey he’s played in recent years. That said, he also brings tremendous upside and is a proven winner—something Edmonton has never had during the McDavid era.
