Oilers Offer Injury Updates on McDavid and Other Key Players
Head coach Kris Knoblauch provided several injury updates on Thursday, including status reports on McDavid, Henrique and Dickinson.
Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch addressed the media on Thursday morning as the team used a travel day to head to Anaheim ahead of Game 3 of their opening-round series.
While no on-ice action took place, the focus remained firmly on health updates, with several key injury situations surrounding the Oilers coming into clearer view.
McDavid Expected to Be Fine for Game 3
Captain Connor McDavid remains the biggest storyline, even though he said he was fine after Game 2. Knoblauch said he was confident that McDavid’s availability for Game 3 is not in question.
McDavid briefly left Wednesday’s game after getting tied up in a collision with defenseman Mattias Ekholm, appearing to be in discomfort as he made his way down the tunnel. He was absent for a short stretch before returning to finish the contest.
Because McDavid has struggled to produce, some were questioning whether the injury or a scare of one was impacting him.

After the game, McDavid acknowledged he had rolled his ankle but downplayed the severity. Knoblauch indicated there is no concern about McDavid’s ability to play or be effective moving forward.

Still, McDavid has looked off his usual standard in the series, showing uncharacteristic turnovers and a lack of dominance at times. While speculation about nagging issues often follows quieter performances from the superstar, the Oilers continue to insist there is no significant injury concern.
Henrique Remains Out for Road Trip
The Oilers will once again be without veteran forward Adam Henrique, who has been ruled out for the upcoming games in Anaheim.
Henrique was injured in Game 1 following a collision with Kasperi Kapanen and was unable to return to the lineup. He also missed Game 2, and Knoblauch confirmed he will not travel with the team for Games 3 and 4.
His absence opened the door for Josh Samanski in Game 2, who stepped into the lineup and made an immediate impact by scoring his first career playoff goal.
Dickinson a Game-Time Decision
Forward Jason Dickinson is traveling with the team and remains a potential option for Game 3.
Knoblauch noted that Dickinson was a 50-50 decision heading into Game 2 and ultimately did not play, suggesting that he was close to returning but not quite ready. With additional recovery time between games, the Oilers appear optimistic that the veteran center could be cleared to return when the series resumes.
His availability would provide Edmonton with added depth down the middle as they look to take control of the series in Anaheim. The Oilers now need to steal a game back after leaving Edmonton with the series tied.
