Oilers Reportedly Not “In the Mix” on Canucks Trade
According to TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, the Edmonton Oilers will not be one of the teams making a play to acquire defenseman Tyler Myers.
According to TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, the Edmonton Oilers will not be one of the teams making a play to acquire defenseman Tyler Myers. Rishaug writes in a post on Thursday, “For those asking, am told Oilers are not in the mix on Myers, if that’s not out there yet.”
Myers trade rumors are intensifying dramatically as the March 6, 2026, NHL trade deadline nears, with the Vancouver Canucks in full seller/rebuild mode.

On Wednesday, the Canucks scratched the 36-year-old veteran defenseman from their home game vs. the Winnipeg Jets for “roster management purposes”—NHL code for trade-related reasons. This was confirmed by several insiders like Rick Dhaliwal, Darren Dreger, and Kevin Weekes.
Apparently, the Canucks have presented Myers with a specific trade option, and he’s deliberating with his agent whether to waive his full no-movement clause (it converts to a 12-team NTC next season).

Reports indicate Vancouver is “at the 1-yard line” on a deal, but the Oilers are not the team he’s been asked to consider waiving for. As per Rishaug, Edmonton is not even in the mix. The Oilers are looking for another defenseman. It’s become a priority for them at this trade deadline, and given the way their loss to the Anaheim Ducks unfolded on Wednesday — blowing two, two-goal leads and losing 6-5 in the final minutes — it’s not hard to understand why.
No destination for Myers is locked yet, but a trade is clearly close. Potential fits include contenders like Dallas Stars (to bolster their second pair), Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, or others needing veteran stability. Myers prefers to stay but holds the veto power.
