Oilers Insider Hints at Potential Offseason Trade for Goalie Prospect
The Edmonton Oilers could look to trade for a goalie prospect this offseason.
Despite some talk about shoring up the crease via a big swing for Sergei Bobrovsky or Jordan Binnington, the Edmonton Oilers stood pat on trade deadline day and will roll with Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram for the rest of the 2025–26 season.
It may not be what all fans were hoping for, but the acquisitions of Connor Murphy, Jason Dickinson, and Colton Dach should improve the defensive play in front of the goalies and, in turn, help them perform on a more consistent level. That is what the Oilers will be banking on in the short term; however, insider Bob Stauffer has already suggested that they will target a netminder for the long term in a trade this offseason.
He specifically mentioned not to be surprised if GM Stan Bowman pursues a solid goaltending prospect come the summertime.
“The @EdmontonOilers made their moves earlier in the week. Added a 3C (Jason Dickinson) and 2RD (Connor Murphy) to shore up Team D/PK…along with bringing in young energy FWD (Colton Dach). Don’t be surprised if EDM pursues a solid goaltending prospect in the off-season,”
Both Ingram and Calvin Pickard are pending UFAs, which means the only Oilers goalie under contract for 2026–27 right now is Jarry, opening the door for an offseason acquisition as Stauffer forecasts.
Goalie Prospects the Oilers Could Target
Stauffer specifically hinting at the pursuit of a solid goaltending prospect is interesting, and there are some options that Edmonton could look to target this summer that fit the mold.

Jesper Wallstedt (20th overall) and Sebastian Cossa (15th overall) are two highly drafted goaltenders from the 2021 draft who could possibly be available for the right offer, though a substantial return package would be required to pry either out of their respective situations, particularly Wallstedt in Minnesota.
Two lower-cost and more realistic alternatives could be Devon Levi of the Buffalo Sabres and Joel Blomqvist of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Levi, 24, and Blomqvist, 24, have both shown flashes at times in short stints at the NHL level, with the potential to turn into solid goalies in a tandem setup.
The other option would be to allow Connor Ungar the opportunity to earn a spot with the big club coming out of training camp. He’s been , and at 24 years old, sooner than later, it will be time for the Oilers to truly see what they have in him.
