Welcome to the NHL Trade Talk Morning Roundup (December 20). We will bring you three key NHL stories in brief each morning. Stay updated on the latest team performances, trade buzz, and standout player news from around the league. Here are today’s key topics.

Oilers Edge Bruins with Overtime Comeback

In our final roundup, the Edmonton Oilers rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Boston Bruins 3-2 in overtime. Mattias Ekholm sealed the win with a one-timer from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins just over a minute into the extra frame. Leon Draisaitl recorded three assists. That extended his multipoint streak to seven games and helped him reach 900 NHL points. Zach Hyman and Connor McDavid also scored, while Stuart Skinner made 24 saves to backstop Edmonton’s resilient effort.

Despite a strong start, the Bruins couldn’t hold their lead. Elias Lindholm and Mark Kastelic scored early, but Boston struggled to maintain offensive pressure in the second half. Bruins captain Brad Marchand emphasized the need for a stronger finish on their road trip. Jeremy Swayman stopped 23 shots but couldn’t stop Edmonton’s late surge, capped by McDavid’s clutch game-tying goal.

Jeremy Roenick Returns to Chicago as a Hall-of-Famer

Former Chicago Blackhawks star Jeremy Roenick received a hero’s welcome as the team honored his recent Hockey Hall of Fame induction. Roenick spent the first eight seasons of his career in Chicago. He reflected on his journey, sharing heartfelt stories about his playing days and the profound impact the city has had on his life.

From recounting lessons from former coach Mike Keenan to expressing gratitude toward his wife Tracy and former Sharks GM Doug Wilson, Roenick’s words were filled with appreciation. His return was marked by a roaring crowd, a moving video tribute set to Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy.” He also had the privilege of sounding the Blackhawks’ iconic goal horn. For Roenick, it was full-circle, celebrating a storied career built on passion, grit, and an unbreakable bond with Chicago.

Lightning Top Blues as Kucherov Extends Point Streak

The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Thursday, helped by Nikita Kucherov’s two assists. He extended his point streak to nine games with 20 points (three goals, 17 assists). Gage Goncalves netted his first NHL goal. Andrei Vasilevskiy delivered a solid performance with 31 saves, anchoring Tampa Bay’s fourth consecutive win.

Nikita Kucherov wasn't on the ice for the Lightning's pre-game skate and was ruled out with an injury.

Despite strong puck possession, the Blues struggled offensively. Pavel Buchnevich scored their lone goal. Jordan Binnington was replaced after allowing three goals on 11 shots. The Blues face a crucial rebound opportunity against the Florida Panthers as they seek more consistent play.
