NHL Team Trying To Acquire Taylor Hall By Dec 19th!

Could the Colorado Avalanche be pushing for Taylor Hall to join the team as early as the NHL Christmas break?

A Taylor Hall trade may come sooner that anyone realizes. During Saturday’s Headlines report on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston reports there are a number of teams sniffing around the New Jersey Devils and Taylor Hall situation but one clear leader in the race to land him has emerged.

Most insiders are already predicting the Colorado Avalanche as the favorites to acquire Hall in a trade. Many assumed they’d do so before the trade deadline in February. But, new reports on how quickly they might try to do so is the news story worth noting.

Johnston notes it might take as many as four pieces to acquire Taylor Hall from the New Jersey Devils and that, so far, any conversations have been fairly one-sided as the Devils are just telling teams to put their best packages together.

Johnston then added that the Avs are leading the way and may try and make a push to acquire Hall before the Dec. 19 Christmas break in the NHL.

Joe Sakic recently downplayed the team’s interest in making a big splash but many NHL insiders believed that might have been posturing. With a good chunk of cap space and reports from players like Nathan MacKinnon that he’d be willing to take less on his next deal if it meant grabbing good players, all the pieces seem to fit in Colorado.

All Sakic said was that team needed to assess what it is they really need to put them over the top. Have they already done so?

The Return for Hall

But, what is Sakic willing to give up to land Hall? It could cost the Avs one of Conor Timmins, Bo Byram or Alex Newhook to get a deal done and some media close to the team don’t love the idea of moving such a high-end prospect for what could ultimately become a rental.
