News Announcement: Toronto Maple Leafs Auston Matthews ‘Is Fit to Play’

In a long (40-minute) video conference call earlier today, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager KyleDubas noted that he expects his roster, which has been in town for at least the last week, to be ready to start the postseason – and start it quickly.

Most notable among the announcements during the video conference was that star center Auston Matthews, who was announced last month to have tested positive for COVID-19 while he was working out in Arizona, has been placed on the roster and is ready to play.

The news on Matthews had been so scant that it was almost as if he had fallen off the face of the world. So, today’s announcement is great news both for the Maple Leafs organization and for Maple Leafs fans.

Kyle Dubas’ Shortest Answer of the Conference Call

Although Dubas went into some depth with other answers, his shortest answer in the video conference was simply: “Auston is fit to play.”

In fact, here’s the question and answer verbatim.

Question: “Auston Matthews is, obviously, on the roster. Is he in Toronto and is he eligible to skate tomorrow?”

Dubas’ Answer: “Auston is fit to play and was on the roster that was released this morning, yes.”

That’s good news because the 22-year-old Matthews scored 80 points in 70 games (47 of those points were goals).

Welcome Back, Auston!
