New York Rangers Bringing Vesey to Camp on PTO
According to CapFriendly, the New York Rangers have signed forward Jimmy Vesey to a PTO for training camp later this month.

This doesn’t come as a major surprise, as Larry Brooks had reported in August that he was in the belief a one-year deal at a league minimum $750,000 deal may be offered to Vesey from the Rangers. While that doesn’t appear to be the case just yet, there is a chance the 29-year-old is able to secure himself a contract for the 2022-23 season with a strong showing in training camp.

Despite being drafted by the Nashville Predators as a third-round pick in 2012, Vesey chose not to sign an entry-level deal and as a result became an unrestricted free agent a few short years later. In a lengthy process dubbed the ‘Vesey Watch’, he chose to sign with the Rangers. He went on to spend three seasons in New York, where he registered 50 goals and 90 points in 240 games.
After the 2018-19 season, the Rangers chose to trade Vesey to the Buffalo Sabres. Since that deal, he has moved around a lot, spending just one season in the organization before going on to have stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, and the New Jersey Devils. He has played in a combined 422 games in his career, scoring 72 goals and 135 points. He has also suited up for 12 career playoff games in which he has a goal and five points.
While he will by no means be a gamebreaker, there is a real chance for Vesey to earn himself a deal with the Rangers for the upcoming season. This is a team who has a few question marks up front, meaning they could benefit from adding Vesey as their 13th forward for some insurance. On top of that, they have just over $1 million in cap space, which would give them the room needed to give out a league minimum contract.
