Islanders Confirm Signing of 3 Players, Plus Barzal Update

The New York Islanders have officially confirmed they have re-signed Matt Martin, Andy Greene, as well as UFA goalie Cory Schneider.

During a media address on Thursday, New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello has officially confirmed that the Islanders have re-signed Matt Martin and Andy Greene, as well as come to terms with UFA goalie Cory Schneider.

As for the latest on restricted free agent center Mathew Barzal, Lamoriello said, “nothing new to say”. As for what’s next in respect to the Barzal negotiations, the Islanders will continue to work to have him signed for opening of camp. He added: “We still have a few days until training camp. I don’t want to get into any hypotheticals. It is our intention and his intention for him to be there. Hopefully that happens.”

Latest reports were that the two sides weren’t terribly close. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period had reported the two sides still had some work to do and while talks were ramping up, they were a ways apart.

Other Quick Notes:

  • Interestingly, as it pertains to Josh Ho-Sang, Lamoriello says his team notified him the player wasn’t even considered a taxi squad member.
  • Lamoriello says Semyon Varlamov, Ilya Sorokin, Cory Schneider and Jakub Skarek will be the four goalies in training camp.
  • Lamoriello says there will be no PTOs going into training camp and the team will have 21 forwards, 12 defenseman and four goaltenders
  • Casey Cizikas and Matt Pelech — both injured during the playoffs — are ready to go.
