For the next little while, the Colorado Avalanche will try to keep up a relatively strong season going without the services of center Nathan MacKinnon. It has been reported that the injury he suffered in the overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild will keep him out for the foreseeable future.

MacKinnon has scored 14 points in the team’s first ten games and generated 41 shots on goal but he will now be out on a week-to-week basis, according to Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Post. This is not great news for the 6-3-1 Avs who have also lost other key names to injury so far this season.
According to head coach Jared Bednar, also week-to-week are Pavel Francouz, Erik Johnson, Devon Toews, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, and Matt Calvert.
The Avalanche take on the Wild again tonight and again Thursday before a two-game series against the division-leading St. Louis Blues. They’ll need depth forwards to step up in a major way if the team wants to remain one of the favorites this season. The Avs have tons of depth, but this list of injuries is starting to become worrisome.
There is certainly going to be a drop in production, the question will be just how much.
