Miller on Rift with Pettersson: “You Guys Have Created This Thing”
J.T. Miller spoke with the media on Sunday and was asked about the rumored issues with Elias Pettersson, “You Guys Have Created This Thing”.
J.T. Miller was asked several questions on Sunday regarding the rumors of a rift between himself and teammate Elias Pettersson. His response to speculated issues was direct with media, saying: “You guys, in a sense, have created this thing…I can bring out Petey, and we can do the interview together if that’ll make you guys happy.”
Miller noted he’s got enough of his own problems trying to play a 200-ft game for the Canucks to be worried about outside noise the media might be creating, suggesting there are lockerroom and personal issues between the Canucks two stars. He flat-out denied there was an issue at all and offered to bring out Pettersson to put the story to bed. When asked if it was a distraction or it bothered him, he responded, “I don’t care, you guys can ask all you want,” and told everyone they were just wasting their time.

Miller’s interview with the media came just hours after Pettersson spoke with the press following the Canucks’ overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators. In that scrum, Pettersson claimed, “I don’t know why people are still trying to make s— up.”

Miller Says On-Ice Struggles Aren’t Related to the Pettersson Talk
The veteran forward knows he hasn’t played terribly well for the Canucks of late. Miller took ownership of that during the same meeting with the media. “Not driving the play, I want to on a consistent basis. Try and have a good game tomorrow.” He added, “That’s on me; I’ve got to be more focused.”
Meanwhile, Pettersson is enduring the longest pointless streak of his career, spanning six games, which coincides with Miller’s return to the lineup. Rumors of tension between the two have sparked speculation about a potential trade and it has been reported by Elliotte Friedman that the team has asked both players to sort out whatever problems they’re having.
Fans and analysts continue to debate whether this reported friction is impacting the team in a way they may not be able to recover from without a major roster change.
