The news got lost a little in the hustle and bustle that was around 90 players hitting the NHL waiver wire on Monday. Still, it might be among the bigger “official moves” today as Hoffman stands to impact the Blues roster greater than any potential waiver wire pick-up or loss by an NHL team.

Hoffman responded to the news writing a tweet that said, “Here we go STL!!”

Hoffman was one of the NHL’s most intriguing unrestricted free agents this season. He was holding out for a team to meet his speculated salary demands in a tight salary cap season and when no one did, he went to the Blues on a professional tryout. The deal was never really about trying out, it was more a means to get to the point that the Blues could sign him once LTIR transactions had been completed and the team could fit him in under their salary cap.

Hoffman chose the Blues because of the opportunity he’ll have to contribute on offense. With Vladimir Tarasenko and Alex Steen out, he’ll slot in high on the roster and have a great chance to produce, thus earning him a chance to make much more money next offseason.
