McMann Just Changed Everything: Now What Happens?
McMann’s breakout changed everything — now Seattle, Toronto, or Edmonton all make sense. But where does he land?
Bobby McMann is in one of those “good-problem” spots. He finally got a taste of real opportunity in Seattle, ripped off 10 goals in 18 games, and now every team that matters can picture him fitting in. He’s from Alberta; his folks live in Edmonton; he previously wanted to stay with the Maple Leafs; and Seattle clearly used him well.
So what makes sense? Here’s the lowdown on the three most likely spots and the real upside and downside of each.
Should McMann Stay in Seattle — Upside & Downside
The Upside: McMann already clicked there. Lane Lambert gave him a role, fans warmed to him, and he rode that momentum into immediate production. If Seattle offers a multi-year deal and the chance to be a consistent top-six contributor, that’s stability and playing time. It would be ideal for a guy who’s proved he can score when used right.
The Downside: Kraken cap space and roster priorities could limit term or dollars, and if they don’t value him as highly as he expects, he could get a shorter deal than he wants.
Should McMann Return to Toronto — Upside & Downside
The Upside: McMann clearly loved playing in Toronto, and the Maple Leafs already know exactly what he brings. That’s reliable depth scoring and a player who fits the culture perfectly. Bringing him back gives them continuity and lets him play on a contender with some elite linemates feeding him chances.
The Downside: The Maple Leafs roster is pretty crowded, and the cap is tight, so he might end up with fewer minutes or a smaller role unless someone else is moved out. Do they see what the Kraken saw? If Toronto can’t promise him consistent top-six ice time, he risks falling back into that “not getting enough opportunities” story again.

Should McMann Move to Edmonton — Upside & Downside
The Upside: For McMann, Edmonton would be home — the pull is real. His parents live there, and playing near home matters. The Oilers could offer a role that fits their needs (depth scoring, penalty kill, occasional power-play work) and the chance to be part of a hungry, high-octane team. Easy family visits and familiarity with the Alberta hockey scene are all bonuses.
The Downside: Edmonton’s roster construction and cap situation might limit term or money, and competition for minutes is real. Also, expectations in front of family can add pressure.

The Bottom Line for McMann
If McMann wants stability and role certainty, Seattle’s the logical choice. If he wants prestige and contender upside, Toronto’s return would be sweet but less secure, playing-time-wise. But if family and hometown vibes matter most, Edmonton makes sense.
Personally, I’d bet on Seattle sticking if they open the wallet for a reasonable multi-year deal. He already proved the fit. Still, don’t rule out Edmonton’s hometown pull or a sentimental Maple Leafs reunion if circumstances align.
He should be one of the most sought-after free agents in the NHL this offseason.
