McDavid’s Wife Gives Indication Superstar Re-Signing with Oilers
Connor McDavid’s wife appears to be opening a high-end cocktail bar in Edmonton, which might hint at a McDavid extension with the Oilers.
Connor McDavid‘s wife, Lauren Kyle McDavid, posted on her Instagram account this past week that she’s working on a new business venture in Edmonton. While this isn’t a guarantee she and McDavid are planting roots in the city to stay long-term, it is a positive sign that the McDavid’s might have no intention of leaving. Nothing is guaranteed, but it’s another positive sign that things are trending in the right direction.
She tagged her post, “New business venture well in the works… coming soon, Edmonton.”
Ryan Rishaug and the crew from the Got Yer’ Back podcast noticed Lauren’s post as well. Rishaug said, “For fans that are wondering what the future looks like, Connor McDavid’s future, this and that, you look at all these different signs, and Struds, it seems to me like sinking roots into a community and starting businesses is a pretty good sign.”
It appears she’s put a lease on a building that suggests she’s starting a high-end cocktail bar called Bar Trove. The post included screenshots of the sign, blueprints, and the exterior of a very swanky building in the downtown area of the city.
Rob Brown believes that the future is already a given. Noting that there was likely no way that Leon Draisaitl agreed to stay long-term in Edmonton without first talking to McDavid to see if his best friend was open to doing the same, these two are attached at the hip. Draisaitl doesn’t commit to eight years if McDavid intends to test the market and leave.

Happy Wife, Happy McDavid?
If Lauren is setting up business ventures and doing things that suggest she wants to be busy and a budding entrepreneur in the city, it bodes well for fans who want to see the McDavids stay. Part of any player’s decision is family. There have been cases where a spouse hasn’t wanted to be in the city in which the player is employed and it has led to trades and signings where the player moves on. If Lauren is happy in Edmonton, McDavid likely is too.
As for what McDavid intends to sign for with the Oilers, fans will learn that sometime around July 1.

I wouldn’t read anything into it. If my wife was a millionaire and was living in a town for two years, I’d start a bar too. If he moved a year or two later, oh well, I’ll start a new bar in a new city, because she’s a millionaire and I can just do whatever I want. But nice try.

You might be right. It might mean nothing. I’m sure Oilers fans are hoping that’s not the case.
