McDavid Stuck in Dangerous Habit In Series with the Ducks
Connor McDavid has been guilty of a bad habit in the series with the Anaheim Ducks and he appears stuck not getting out of his own way.
Drew Remenda joined The Fan Hockey Show on Friday and offered up an assessment of what’s going wrong with Connor McDavid. Without a point in the first two games of the series against the Anaheim Ducks, Remenda, who has watched McDavid a lot this season, said he might be guilty of trying to do too much.
Remenda explained:
“…And I thought to myself, he reminds me right now of how he played in the Olympic gold medal game. In the Olympics, I thought he was, by far, the best hockey player on the planet, and he’s established that again and again and again.” But, there’s a point where you have to trust your teammates and McDavid might be guilty of not doing that enough.

Remenda added, “But he was trying to do everything he could by himself to will his team into the fight. He was leading the way, and he was trying to pull everybody with him and he was, at times, he was on an island, and he thought, “Okay, then I’ll just do it myself and get going.”
Remenda added, “And I think with what’s happening right now, especially after he had his ankle rolled on, he was just flying up and down the ice.”
Does McDavid Have a Reason To Be Selfish?
Remenda pointed to a series in Game 1 where, on the power play, McDavid must have set up Leon Draisaitl three times, but Leon was just coming back in from an injury, and his timing is off. Ironically, however, it’s been Draisaitl who has been the more effective of the two players and has been producing.
Perhaps McDavid, who admitted that the Oilers need to simplify their game, should take his own advice.
