McDavid Putting On Historic Performance At 2026 Winter Olympics

Connor McDavid shines at the 2026 Winter Olympics, leading in scoring and setting new records for Canadian players.

The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan are only three games in, but Connor McDavid is already making it look easy. After a 10-2 blowout win over France on Sunday, McDavid now has nine points through three games. He leads the entire tournament in scoring. Also, he has already set a new record for the most points by a Canadian NHLer in a single Olympic tournament.

While he’s busy rewriting the single-Games record book, he’s also quietly closing in on the all-time mark held by his captain, Sidney Crosby.

McDavid’s Historic Start

By recording three points in three straight games, McDavid became the first player in an NHL-attended Olympics to accomplish that. He has a goal and two assists in each contest so far. This pretty much sums up why he was the most anticipated player heading into this tournament.

His nine points surpassed the previous single-tournament mark for a Canadian NHLer, which was held by Jonathan Toews with eight points in 2010. What makes it even more impressive is that McDavid has done it in just nine periods of hockey. At this pace, he’s not just chasing gold. In fact, he’s setting a standard that might not be touched for a long time.

Chasing Crosby for Most Points

While McDavid is breaking single-tournament records, Crosby is adding to his career totals. With a goal and two assists against France, Crosby moved into sole possession of the record for most career points by a Canadian forward in the NHL era of the Olympics with 16. He passed Jarome Iginla, who previously held the mark with 14.

The interesting part is how close McDavid already is. He sits just seven points back. Crosby has played in three different Olympics to reach 16. Meanwhile, McDavid has nearly hit double digits in less than a week. And, with at most three games remaining over another week, he could very well hit 20 points by the end of the tournament.

What’s Next for Team Canada

Canada wrapped up the preliminary round with a perfect 3-0 record and secured the top seed heading into Wednesday’s quarter-finals. With the way that McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, and Macklin Celebrini are playing, it feels like more records could be broken before this tournament is over.

We’ll see how it unfolds once the knockout stage begins. But right now, it’s hard not to notice how dominant McDavid has been on the world stage.
