Maple Leafs Update: Reilly Out Eight Weeks, Sandin Called Up

The Toronto Maple Leafs got more bad news learning that defenseman Morgan Reilly will miss eight weeks with a fractured foot. The team has recalled Rasmus Sandin in an effort to help on the blue line.

The injury situation keeps getting worse for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jake Muzzin is already out and now the team has learned that Morgan Reilly will be out eight weeks with a fractured foot that he suffered in the 8-4 loss to the Florida Panthers on Sunday night.

As a result (he was likely already on his way), the Maple Leafs are recalling Rasmus Sandin from the AHL affiliate Marlies organization.

Sandin Gets the Call

After a great World Juniors Tournament and speculation he’d be joining the team immediately following the tourney, defenseman Rasmus Sandin is back with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs absolutely need him.

Getting trounced by the Panthers on Sunday, Toronto is struggling both with keeping the puck out of their net and with injuries, Reilly’s being the latest in a long line of bad news on the blue line.

Whether or not the Maple Leafs make additional moves remains to be seen but the Leafs are hoping Sandin is every bit as good as most think he will be. With 15 points in 21 AHL games, the 19-year-old now has a ton of pressure on his shoulders.

Reilly, 25, had three goals and 27 points in 46 games this season but also averaged 24;15 minutes of ice time per game. Now, the team is left with Travis Dermott, Justin Holl, Tyson Barrie, Cody Ceci, and Sandin to fill the void.
